Happy 101st Birthday to the National Park Service! Make sure you celebrate right and head out to any national parks near you. Today, admission is free to add to the celebration!

It is vital to the health of the environment to preserve and care for nature. The National Park Service does this every day for the good of the nation, and the well-being of the world. Here are a few of the most popular national parks in America.

Grand Canyon | Arizona

This national park is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. It stretches over 227 miles across Arizona. Over 4 million people visit per year. There are four separate parts of the Grand Canyon that represent the North, South, East and West sides of the landscape. Its brown, orange, and red tones enhance the color of the skies during sunrise and sunset. It is one of the most visited national park in the United States.

Grand Teton National Park | Wyoming

This is located south of Yellowstone National Park. It is known for its beautiful lakes and vast valley floors and meadows. Here you can see the peaks of the Teton Range, and hike, bike, and walk around the grounds.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park | Border Between North Carolina and Tennessee

This park straddles the border of North Carolina and Tennessee. This is the most visited national park in the U.S. It is a part of the Appalachian mountain trail and is one of America’s oldest mountain ranges. People are drawn to the seemingly endless forest and the myriad of waterfalls. This park has over 11 million visitors every year.

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park | Hawaii

The most popular features of this park are its active volcanoes. Kilauea is this park’s most active volcano. This volcano itself is the most visited attraction in Hawaii. Here you can hike through old lava tubes and rainforests.

Yellowstone National Park | Wyoming, Montana, Idaho

Yellowstone reaches into two other states, Montana and Idaho, from Wyoming. This was the world’s first national park. Old Faithful, the legendary geyser that erupts on schedule, is found here, as well as the Grand Prismatic Spring. It is also home to a supervolcano.   

Sequoia National Park | California

This park is filled with hundred-year-old sequoia trees that reach heights of up to and above 300 feet. There are several lodges you can stay in that are built into the forest itself. The park is well known for its calming hikes amongst the tall trees.

Rocky Mountain National Park | Colorado

There are over 300 miles of hiking trails in this park. The Trail Ridge Road is 12,000+ feet, which allows you to easily experience the subalpine and alpine landscapes.

Yosemite National Park | California

This park is tucked in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Yosemite also has ancient sequoia trees, and two granite cliffs called El Capitan and Half Dome. The Half Dome hike is one of its most famous attractions.

Zion National Park | Utah

Its steep red cliffs help distinguish this national park from the rest. There are forest trails along the Virgin River that cut right through the preserve. Along the river, there is the Zion Narrows wading hike.

Mount Rainier National Park | Washington

The mountain that is the centerpiece of this park is over 14,000 ft. You can take a train ride or hike to experience the sites. There are also several wildlife parks to visit in this area, as well.
