The North Sea may soon become a hub for offshore wind. In order to prove and promote that offshore wind energy is a reliable source of energy, TenneT designed an artificial island called Dogger Bank. They are looking to build this artificial island in the North Sea. They call this “a Hub and Spoke concept for large-scale wind energy on the North Sea.” On this island, they will be producing offshore wind energy and sending it on shore. They are hoping, and expecting, this project to be an affordable, feasible, European electricity system at sea.

Countries all over the world have been using private islands to promote offshore wind energy for a while. The incredible thing about this project is that they are able to expand the island based on supply and demand in the greater European electricity system. Offshore wind could soon become a massive source of reliable kWhs not just in Europe, but across the world.
