Today marks an important milestone in our journey — five years, and one billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy later — we’re announcing the close of a $30M Series C funding round.
While climate pessimism tends to dominate the news, this is a huge moment for people-powered change. Hundreds of thousands of Arcadia members are voting with their power bills for a different energy system, and we’re excited to lead the way.
We are, first and foremost, a mission-driven technology company building a platform that advocates for consumers, not big power companies.
But that’s not all. In 2014, when first deciding on a name for our company, we landed on Arcadia Power because it was a reflection of our mission and vision. Arcadia — a byword for utopia or for living in harmony with the earth — is an apt representation of the type of energy system we’re keen on creating. One that works in tandem with our natural resources, instead of against.
Connecting households to wind and solar energy is at the heart of our business. I’m most proud of the fact that we’re one of the few energy companies focused on serving consumers everywhere and from all walks of life — from Kentucky to Kansas to California. Accessibility and equity are core to who we are as a company and a product, and we’ll continue to work on expanding access to clean energy solutions.
But we are not a power company. We don’t own power plants or take positions in the energy market. We are, first and foremost, a mission-driven technology company building a platform that advocates for consumers, not big power companies.
Which is why we’re also renaming the company to the one word that started it all — Arcadia.
Beyond a shorter name and a refreshed logo, it’s important that we continue to evolve and distinguish ourselves from retail energy suppliers or utilities. We’re embracing a name that is in direct opposition to the energy system that has existed since the beginning — one that can be messy and complex, and is the original sin of climate change.

Changing this market will require innovative technology to close the gap between a clean electron and a user, a relentless focus on modern customer needs and priorities, radical energy efficiency, and most importantly, a community of members committed to doing right by the Earth. A big part of this work is about simplifying complex problems and making a more modern energy experience that is accessible, affordable, and transparent. And over the next year, we’ll announce new home energy products and partnerships toward these goals that we can’t wait to share with you.
